FORWARD BIAS

Forward Bias is an outlet for all the things I can’t help but make.

I’m Josh, an author, educator, and multidisciplinary creator living in Seattle and longing for Berlin. I’m deeply interested in the intersection of traditional media and technology, and how we can both can be used to create art that is organic, messy, and human. I’m on the hunt for ways to center humanity in a world that feels increasingly automated. I make things all the time, and I’m striving to be more purposeful about putting those things into the world.

I write books about code and creativity for educators

I spent a lot of time thinking about how to bring this spirit of exploration into the classroom. While I’m much farther away from may days in the classroom than I’d like, I’m always thinking about what it looks like to foster joy and creativity for kids growing up surrounded by automated curation. I’ve written a couple books for teachers who want to bring CS and creativity into the classroom. You can buy them on Bookshop.org

Tideflats is my latest music project

Lately I’ve been getting back into making music that pulls at some of those same threads, combining acoustic instruments with synths and algorithmic guitar pedals (shout out to Chase Bliss ). I’m working on an EP as Tideflats that will release later this year.
